Access Iredell Court Records

Start an Iredell County court record search online, then finish at the Clerk of Superior Court. The Clerk holds the actual court file. An online case lookup helps you find the case number, the division, and the exact paper you need. Iredell County court records come in more than one form. A public Register of Actions lists dated events. Filed documents sit inside the case file. Certified copies carry the Clerk's seal. Each serves a different job. The Iredell County court docket gives you the history of a case, but a certified copy or a full file takes the Clerk's local process and its access rules. Match the record you want to the channel that provides it.

Getting Iredell County Court Records

Begin with North Carolina eCourts Portal. Search by case number or name. Write down the division, the case number, and the exact record you want. Registration is optional for public use. The online Register of Actions helps you tell apart a dated history, a single filed document, a judgment, or a transcript. One limit matters: sealed, confidential, or sensitive material never appears in the ordinary public view.

Need the file itself? Go to the Iredell County Clerk of Superior Court. The office sits at the Hall of Justice, 226 Stockton Street, Statesville. Self-service terminals at Clerk offices search criminal, civil, special-proceeding, and estate information. You view the actual case file in the county where the case sits. Clerk staff make copies for a fee. For questions, call Civil at 704-832-6603, Criminal and Traffic at 704-832-6602, Estates at 704-832-6604, or Special Proceedings at 704-832-6606.

  1. Locate the Iredell case in Portal and record the exact case number.
  2. Identify whether the request is for the Register, a filed document, a judgment, a certified copy, or a transcript.
  3. Use the Clerk terminal or counter for the county file and eligible copies.
  4. Ask the correct Iredell department about any needed copy level and charges.
  5. Use the archive route only if the Clerk confirms older material was transferred.

Iredell Clerk File Custodian

Iredell runs on a unified Clerk model. The Iredell County Clerk of Superior Court keeps the case files and dockets for Superior Court and District Court alike. That covers criminal, civil, domestic, estates, special proceedings, small claims, traffic, and infraction records. The NCAOC does not hold every court document. Its policy sends a request for a local case document to the Clerk in the county where the case was filed, and the local Clerk can certify a county case document.

The official county page lists Jim Mixson as Clerk of Superior Court, though the department numbers and the main line, 704-832-6600, are steadier routing tools. Remember what the Clerk is for. The office supplies records and certification, not legal-document preparation.

Court Record Types

Three record types get confused, so keep them straight. A Register of Actions is also called a Case Summary. It is the dated public history of a case. A filed document or case file is the real thing: the pleading, order, judgment, exhibit, or other record held by the Iredell Clerk. A certified copy is an authenticated copy the Clerk issues. The Portal guide says it plainly. A Register view is not the official court record, and only a Clerk provides certification.

Iredell Portal Printout Limits

A Portal printout works as a public reference. It is not a certified copy. Portal suppresses restricted material. After the county's October 2025 eCourts conversion, it may lack some historic images. When a case image is missing, the next step is the Iredell Clerk's file route. That is safer than a guess that the document never existed. If the record is lawfully open to you, the public terminal and the case file offer another way to identify what you need.

One location note saves a wasted trip. Government Center South in Mooresville is a court location. But the Judicial Branch says plainly that no Clerk of Court office operates there. File requests, certifications, and public terminals belong to the Hall of Justice Clerk path in Statesville.

Inside a Iredell County Court Record

What shows up in Portal's Case Summary varies by case. The guide describes a case-number link, a case header, a navigation menu, a chronological Register, conditional Causes of Action, Hearings, Financial Information, and Dispositions. The public view masks date of birth. It also leaves out sensitive, sealed, or confidential documents. So don't expect every result to carry all pleadings, parties, orders, financial details, or hearing material.

Iredell Clerk Department Channels

Direct department lines sharpen a record request. Civil is 704-832-6603. Criminal and Traffic is 704-832-6602. Estates is 704-832-6604. Special Proceedings is 704-832-6606. The main number is 704-832-6600. Visit or mail the Clerk at 226 Stockton Street, Statesville, NC 28677; regular weekday hours run 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Hall of Justice location page covers parking and wheelchair access for the building. It is the county record-access site whenever a Portal result needs Clerk follow-up.

Fees and Certified Copies

The statewide miscellaneous fee chart effective January 1, 2025 sets the prices. Copies cost $2 for the first page of each document. Then each additional page or fraction costs 25 cents. A certificate under seal adds $3. Exemplification runs $10. Preparation and docketing of a transcript of judgment is $10. That is not a court-reporter transcript. Confirm charges with the Iredell Clerk before ordering, since one request can stack several services.

ServicePublished charge
First page of each document$2.00
Additional page or fraction$0.25
Certificate under seal$3.00
Exemplification$10.00
County certified criminal record search$25.00

The court-records guidance explains terminals, case files, copies, and transcripts.

The fee chart pays for copies and services; it never unlocks a protected document.

Iredell Archives Record Route

Older Iredell County court files sometimes move out of the Clerk's office. The Iredell Clerk may say a court record went to State Archives. If so, follow the archive reference service or correspondence portal named in the Clerk's archive notice. Most transferred records predate Court Reform. Think roughly 1970 or earlier. Treat this as a history fallback. It is not proof that all old Iredell court material lives elsewhere.

Gather your details first. Note the case caption or number, the court division, the date range, and the type of paper you want. Do this before you contact the archive. The Clerk can tell you whether a historic Iredell file stayed local or already moved. That quick routing step keeps archive requests from being wasted on a modern Portal or Clerk-file question.

The NCAOC public-records request form covers administrative records the Judicial Branch already holds. It is not a way around the local court-file custodian. NCAOC accepts requests online or by mail. But a local case document still goes through the Clerk. If an administrative records request gets denied, the policy lists reconsideration and mediation options.

Sealed Records and Public Access

G.S. 7A-109 opens clerk records, dockets, and indexes to inspection during regular hours unless another law blocks access. Public still has limits. G.S. 1-72.1 gives courts a way to restrict access in covered matters. Juvenile files follow separate confidentiality rules, and protected identifiers can be redacted from public court images.

Local record rule. Portal is the public view, but the Iredell Clerk is the county custodian. A no-result, missing document, or masked field is an access limitation or search question, not a conclusion about the matter.

Federal records are a different animal. The Western District of North Carolina, Statesville Division, sits at 200 W. Broad Street, Room 304, Statesville. Its dockets run through PACER and CM/ECF, not the Iredell Portal or the county Clerk.

Iredell County court record search Statesville federal court source

A federal courthouse in Statesville does not change the Iredell Clerk route for North Carolina state court records.

Federal Records Are Separate

Federal district, bankruptcy, and appellate dockets all use PACER. The PACER Case Locator works as a federal docket search route. The Western District's CM/ECF system handles federal filing and court records, while records from Iredell Superior Court, District Court, magistrates, and the county Clerk stay in the North Carolina system.

The Statesville Division's CM/ECF page lists 200 W. Broad Street, Room 304, Statesville. It also posts its own federal hours and contact details. A federal building in Statesville is not an Iredell County Clerk office. A federal case report takes the federal path; an Iredell state-court case still goes through Portal and the Clerk.

Check PACER's pricing information before any federal search, since its fees can change. Sort out the jurisdiction first. Then order a record or ask a Clerk to find a file.

Iredell County court record search federal PACER fee source

Keeping the systems straight stops a federal request from reaching the Iredell Clerk, or a state request from landing at PACER. Before ordering anything, read the court named on your notice or case number. That one check sends an Iredell court-record search to the right office and spares you a wasted request to the wrong court system.
